Phentermine is an appetite suppressant drug that has been used for years for weight loss.
In recent years, some physicians have been combining Phentermine with a migraine and anti-seizure drug, Topiramate (brand name: Topomax), resulting in significant weight loss. A recent study was conducted on 2,500 overweight or obese adults with at least two major health issues at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina on the use of both Phentermine and Topiramate revealed test subjects on the combination lost twice as much weight as subjects taking Orlistat, also known as Xenical or Alli in other countries. The combination of Phentermine and Topiramate also improved blood sugar levels, cholesterol and triglycerides, blood pressure, and markers for inflammation in test subjects.
This combo may be useful for those who have failed other weight loss programs or methods and have a BMI of 30 or greater (Obese) or a BMI of 27 or greater (Overweight) and the presence of at least one weight-related health condition such as Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol and/or high triglycerides. However, due to the use of 2 drugs at the same time the risk for potential side effects is greater.
